DISTINGUISHED HISTORY AND CULTURE

The Portuguese Empire was in power in the 15-16th centuries, during the Age of Discovery where Bartholomeu Dias discovered The Cape of Good Hope in 1488. Vasco da Gama explored the route to India (Goa) in 1497 and Brazil in 1500, and Ferdinand Magellan completed the first circumnavigation of the Earth.

Lisbon: one of the oldest cities in the world. 202 BC, Julius Cesar named it Felicitas Julia. The city of Lisbon is rich in architecture, Romanesque, Gothic, Manueline, Baroque, Modern and Postmodern constructions can be found all over Lisbon. Sao Jorge Castle, first built in around 200 BC, is the most important historic centre in Lisbon.

Porto: the city’s history dates back to around 300 BC. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO (1996), European Culture Capital (2001) and internationally recognised for its most famous export – port wine.

Portugal has an excellent geographic location in Western Europe, with speedy transport links to all major European cities.
